It’s been less than a week since BILLUPS, along with more than a dozen people linked to a major FBI investigation, were arrested for his involvement in a gambling ring including hard-hitting poker games and sports betting.

Miami Heat Guard Terry Rozier and NBA Guard Damon Jones were also among those arrested by the FBI in connection with two separate gambling charges.

Billips, in a statement from his lawyer, denied any wrongdoing as it is suspected that he is part of the fixed poker games that the FBI investigated. He is charged with fraud and money laundering.

“Anyone who knows Chauncey Billips knows that he is a man of integrity; men of integrity do not deceive others,” reads attorney Chris Heywood.

“To believe that Chauncey Billups did what the federal government accused him of is to believe that he would risk his hall of fame legacy, his reputation and his freedom. He would not risk those things.”

Heywood said Billups “has never been able to and will not be able to gamble on basketball games, provide information about his team and his league, as he would do the game for the rest of his life.”

Billips and his legal team intend to fight the allegations “with the same tenacity that has marked his 28-year career.”

The poker games were allegedly tied to the NOSTRA crime families, where Billps and Jones, known as “dealing cards,” were allegedly used as celebrity figures to win at the games.

The Department of Justice (DoJ) said, in April 2019, that the Billips were among five defendants who organized and participated in hard-hitting poker games “in Las Vegas where a hard-hitting machine was used” where a hard-hitting machine was used “where a hard-hitting machine was used” in the desert. One victim of the game is said to have lost at least $50,000. Another defendant wrote another conspiracy that Billips had to lose purpose to avoid any allegations of cheating.

And at that game, one defendant said one of the victims “acted like he wanted Cuncey to have his money” because he was “star-struck” by the NBA legend, officials said.

BILLUPS and Rozier were both placed on immediate leave of absence by the NBA this past Thursday.

“We are aware of the allegations involving head coach Chauncey Billips, and the Blazers are cooperating fully with the investigation,” the team said. “Billups has been placed on immediate leave, and the Tiago splitter will take over Head Coaching duties in the interim. Any further questions should be addressed by the NBA.”
