It was a rude awakening for some young, high-class, high-tail New Yorkers in the previous city, as they arrived at the Zohran Mamdani Victory Party in Brooklyn to find that a light bulb cost $13. I mean, what kind of Socialist Utopia?
In fact, the more expensive suds may be showing the impact Zany Zohran’s policies will have on Gotham. It will probably be more of a celebration of error than a Communist takeover, making New York City very expensive and unattractive, but with snazzy Soviet-Style posters and TIKTOK videos.
And guess what? Even if crime skyrockets because Mamdani hates the police, buses are no longer free, taxes continue to rise and the city is more divided than ever – Mamdani will be a two-term mayor.
There is no republican Rudy Giuliani 2.0 waiting in the wings, and even if there was, those votes weren’t getting him.

Another reason why Mamdani is sailing for a second term is that his base is being transplanted, young adults in their 20s and 30s who will live elsewhere. For them, a minor crime might even be Nathan’s hot dog mustard.
Finally, the reason that Gotham looks like an eight-year sentence for Sonhlani’s leadership is that the Republican Party, from the national level, across the country, simply refuses to try to compete.

Some of these dates go back to Michael Bloomberg, who ran convincingly as a Republican in 2002 to win the Mayor’s race and then ran as an independent in the third seat, holding on to his competitive seat and a minority of the city council.
Maybe the Republicans in Gotham are hopeless. Maybe things won’t get bad enough, for everyone, that a new Rudy can emerge, and given how the original has been treated today, who would want to be that person, anyway?
No matter how bad it gets, the city will blame Trump. Or vance. Or bigotry, Islamophobia or whatever they can think of. No use, they would have re-elected de blasio if they could.

Notice how the billionaires are now changing their tune, including working with Mamdani, asking for meetings with their new Commie Mayor. Teething and mourning the death of New York City.
Right-leaning gothams never bought into all the sturm und drang anyway, and they sure as hell don’t let the tipsters tell you how to vote.
If there is any hope for the GOP to make a comeback in New York City, they better get started now, because with rank-choice primary voting there isn’t a moderate Democrat in the universe, to the extent they still exist, who could topple Zohran.
The election has consequences, and for the next eight years, at least, New York City has social consequences. Like sitting in construction for two hours after your child is already done, they will have to sit through the whole thing.
