Sony is dropping the A7 V, its next rear camera

Sony seems ready to announce another addition to its alpha camera lineup. The company shared a photo on the Sony Alpha Instagram account with the caption “Chase Your Dream” on December 2 at 9 am, which could be a teaser for its next flagship camera.

It’s possible that the company has something else in mind, but the giant “v” or the five Roman numerals behind the image looks like a clear reference to the a7 v, the successor to the alpha 7 IV. Considering that there was a four-year gap between the release of the A7 III and the A7 IV, releasing a new camera in 2026 would make for a timely liveup, too.

Rumors suggest that the A7 V may include a new 33mp “partly made” sensor made by Sony, as well as the ability to capture 4K / 60 FPS video. The company also teased by announcing at least two new lenses to go with the new camera. Since the Alpha 7 IV started at $2,500, it seems safe to expect that this upgrade will be more expensive when the camera is officially announced in December.
