according to ESUSTUSTAFIA Commissioner Julie Inman who receives Graming said that dipping is included because “it is a platform used by users, including children in Australia, to communicate with people in relation to posted content.”
NO other platforms are expected to be added before the law goes into effect next month. Grant also said on Friday that Pinterest would not be included in the ban because the main purpose of the platform was not to communicate online.
Under the ban, platforms are expected to take “reasonable steps” to protect users from accessing their platforms, and face hefty fines for failure to comply. While it may provide a working environment in some cases, the law still creates a significant barrier to entry for users under the age of 16.
Earlier this month, lawmakers reached an agreement with BIPartisan to ban the same for users under 15, although details were denied. In the US, several states have tried to include such a ban, including again, although these measures failed to pass or were tied up in court. Even laws that don’t go so far, such as requiring parents to give permission for teenagers to open social media accounts, are being targeted by stunds.
Concerns surrounding social media for young people are in the zeitgeist as the platforms around these platforms have their own young users.
