The A7R v isn’t our top-of-the-line camera, but mostly because it’s relatively expensive relative to the rest of the market. At this price, however, it’s a steal, and while it’s not the best trophy for everyone, the A7R V is arguably the best camera you can buy. And I know, megapixels aren’t everything, but I’ve never taken a picture with this camera and I’m thinking, Darn, that’s too many megapixels.
The Massive 61-MegaPixel, full-frame sensor on the A7V V is the biggest you can get without getting to the big, Bulkier Medium-FormatFACE camera. If you want to go completely nuts, get this, landscape photos: The A7V V can combine 16 shots into one 240 photo. It only works with static subjects, but if you have ever worried if your photos are refreshing enough to cover the side of the building at times of the square,, you will rest easy with the A7R V.
Yes, the megapixel race is stupid and much more, but I will say that I shot less with the A7R C-which uses the same sensor with difficulty, and the Dynamic range is easier than what I get from the A7R II (which has a 40-mp sensor). This is obviously a screen-to-screen case, where the pixel is the best, but I can also see the difference when I print photos.
That the A7V V is $900 off makes you wonder if the A7R VI is around the corner? Anything is possible, but I doubt it will come that far. The A7C R, as noted above, is almost identical in features, and is still not on sale. In addition, rumors have the A7 V (No R) before the end of the year, and Sony has not announced the cameras back.
What if you don’t want all those megapixels? They make for big files, after all (80-120 MB per image in my experience). The Sony A7 IV (9/10, recommended wired, which uses a 33-MP sensor, sells for $700 less than usual.

While the sensor has roughly half the resolution of the A7R V, it’s much sharper and has a few video-oriented features you won’t find in the higher-resolution model. It’s very close to the same distance with the same power and one of the best autofocus systems on the market.
Without going too deep into the growth of video technology, the A7 IV can record 4K / 30p video with projection in the region of 7k sensor. On the other hand, the A7V V uses what is known as Line-Skipping to achieve the same 4k / 30p recording. This method of recording results with reduced intensity and sometimes causes problems in analysis.
