Phase of the Moon Today Explained: What will this month look like on October 28, 2025

We are a day before another phase of the month which can mean one thing; The moon is almost back to us. After last week’s New Moon, it was slowly coming back. And there is much to discover and see in today’s month.

What is today’s moon phase?

From Tuesday, Oct. 28, the phase of the moon is the waxing crescent. There will be 39% of the Moon covered tonight, according to NASA’s daily lunar observations.

Without any visible aids, tonight you should be able to see mare Clisium, mare fecunditatis, and mare Serenitatis. With binoculars you will see a lot, including endymion crater, mare nectaris and posidonius crater. By adding a telescope to your setup, you should also be able to see the sites of Apollo 11 and 17, as well as the Valentine Dome, a dome nasa told us is almost as big as the Eiffel tower. It is called valentine because it looks like a heart in some lights

When is the next month?

The next month will be November 5.

What are the phases of the moon?

Nasa explains that the moon goes through phases as it completes its 29.5-day orbit around the earth. The changing angles between the sun, moon, and earth cause the different phases we see. From Earth, the moon may appear full, partially, or completely gone, but we always see the same side. What changes is the amount of sunlight reflected on its surface, depending on its position in the orbit.

The eight major phases of the moon are:

Bright light speed

New moon – the moon is between the earth and the sun, so the side we see is dark (in other words, invisible to the eye).

Waxing Crescent – a small ball of light appears on the right side (arve hemisphere).

The first quarter – half of the moon is lit on the right. It looks like a Half-Moon.

Waxing gibbous – more than half lit, but not finished.

Full moon – the entire face of the moon is illuminated and fully visible.

Looking for a gibbous – the moon begins to lose light on the right side. (Northern Hemisphere)

Third quarter (or last quarter) – another half of the moon, but now the left side is illuminated.

Waning Crescent – a small light bulb that stays on the left side before going dark again.
