Glen Powell Ditches La for Texas Hometown, Enroll at UT Austin for College

Glen Powell doesn’t want the glitz and glam that comes with living in Hollywood.

During a recent interview with Vanity Fair about its 2026 Hollywood issues, the 37-year-old “trentister” talked about why he chose to leave Los Angeles and return to his hometown of Austin, Texas, despite his success.

“I needed a spiritual place where I could hang my hat and not be really overwhelmed,” she said. “If you live in LA … where everybody has kind of a piece of this stuff, you can’t sign on to that program.”

It appears that Powell went from one hot spot to another, telling the outlet “there’s a lot of shooting around Texas right now. It’s going to be more competitive.”

After moving to the Lone Star State, Powell enrolled in classes at the University of Texas at Austin.

“I just paid for my tuition two days ago for next semester,” she said, falling under the illusion of a permanent job.

“Anyone who believes they’re going to be top dog forever hasn’t learned how Hollywood works,” he said. “So, the best thing you can do is work as hard as you can. Do the things you believe in, take care of the things you’ve done for yourself, hope you leave some things with some things that will continue to look at for years to come.”

He previously opened up about his decision to return to his country in June 2024 in an interview with USA Today.

At the time, he told the outlet it was always his “goal” to return home after getting “soft enough in LA.”

“It’s really nice to be around people who love movies and love the business. But sometimes that echo chamber can be too much for you on a mental health level,” he said. “If all you do is eat movies and entertainment, you might be a little self-aware and maybe based on yourself. Your life, there’s no kind of freedom there, and I feel like that gets to you for a long time.”

Powell spoke to Vanity Fair in November 2024 about her full-time debut in Hollywood as a ‘dressed actress,’ saying there is no harder place to live than in Hollywood. “

He made his film debut in 2003’s “Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over” and later appeared in the 2007 film “The Big Bads,” starring Defel Washington. After impressing in Washington while on set, the veteran actor took her to her agent, Ed Limato, who convinced her to move to Los Angeles.

“Even in the darkest of times in that town, when I really had nothing going on, you planned to lie to yourself, at least take it easy, and pretend that this was the chapter in the story when things didn’t go well,” Powell said.
