Google is bringing Beam, its 3D video conferencing technology, to service members

Google has partnered with United Service Organizations (USO) to help deployed service members connect with their families in a different way. As part of the pilot program, the company is bringing google beam, a 3D video communications system, to USO service centers in the US and other countries beginning in 2026.

Google suggests the beam could help military families separated by miles feel like they’re in the same room. While family members can communicate with loved ones in transit through group chats and video calls, chatting over the phone can help them feel closer, if the tech works well.

At first glance, it is known as Project Goodline – in 2021 Beam is mainly aimed at business clients (the first device costs $ 25,000), but it is interesting to see other Google programs testing other tech programs.
