‘Hedda’s Tessa Thompson, Nia Dacosta, and Nina Hossoss reveal the secrets to that sexy door

How to capture what it looks like to fall head over heels? This was the challenge writer / director Nia Dacosta faced with adapting Henrik IBSEN’s classic play Hedda Gabler in a lovely and terrifying sapphic romance.
Hedda It stars Tessa Thompson as the eponymous antiheronoine, a woman drawn to the freedom of luxury, love and freedom. And when he doesn’t get what he wants, he proves to be a good mastermind. Therefore, when Hedda’s lover, Jenderswidwed by Dacosta to be Eileen Lovborg (Nina Hoss), turns up at a big party that she throws with her recently married husband George Tesman (Tom Bateman), trouble is in the air. But so is love.

As Eileen enters the ballroom, strong, strong and grassy, she immediately commands the audience’s undivided attention as Mercurial Hedda. In an interview with Dacosta, Thompson, Hoss, and Bateman, mashable’s entertainment editor, Kristy Puchko, asked how the site came together.
Dacosta got the technology, sharing the precise details required by the camera effect that makes it seem as if Hedda is floating in Eileen, a moth to the former flame. Hoss shared how it takes a village to create such an impactful moment on film. Bateman offered an insightful comparison between Eileen’s door and the swagger of the Western, where the cow takes roots through the swiping doors. For his part, Thompson shares the difficulty of playing this moment with grace when he is fully aware of how goofy things look outside the frame.
