How to cancel or suspend your YouTube TV subscription
While YouTube TV is the engine’s choice for the best TV streaming service, it’s not for everyone, especially right now. The ongoing dispute between Google and Disney means that subscribers do not have access to channels such as ABC and ESPN, and recent price hikes mean that paying for YouTube TV now costs at least $83 a month.
Whether you’ve switched to another service to keep your favorite channels or just want to save some money, there are plenty of reasons to cancel or pause your subscription now. Here’s what you need to know about canceling or pausing your YouTube TV subscription.
How to cancel your mobile and web subscription
The process of canceling your YouTube TV subscription is the same whether you do it within the YouTube TV app or in a web or mobile browser, as long as you pay Google directly for direct access.
-
Open the YouTube TV website or app.
-
Tap or click your profile picture.
-
Choose Settings (represented by the gear icon).
-
Then choose Cancel membershipthen Rub it to confirm your cancellation.
Your subscription has now been canceled and you will be able to enjoy access to live TV until the end of your current subscription period. Any shows or movies you have recorded will be saved to your account for 21 days, after which they will be deleted. In the grant article, Google says that it will also save what you like in case you want to register and start recording content again. The company “may store limited information (such as your home zip code)” for fraud prevention purposes, too.
If you got your YouTube TV subscription through your mobile provider or Internet provider, the process will be different, but in that case, it will be necessary to cancel it from Google.
How to Set Up Your Subscription on Mobile and Web
If you’d like to simply take a break from paying for YouTube TV, you can pause your subscription for anywhere from four weeks to six months.
-
Open the YouTube TV website or app.
-
Tap or click your profile picture.
-
Choose Settings (represented by the gear icon).
-
Use the slider on the screen to choose how long you want to pay off.
If you pause your subscription, you’ll have access to YouTube TV until the end of your current billing period, after which you’ll lose access and won’t be billed until the break is over. As soon as your selected period has passed, your subscription will automatically renew. At any time during your downtime you can start using YouTube TV again, as long as you are willing to pay. While there is no way to add a break, you have the option to pause and resume your billing.
