“Tomorrow morning I will be filing a motion to impeach Rep. Cherfilus-Mccormick and remove him from all committees,” Steube said in a post on X Wednesday night. “This is one of the saddest abuses of the Public Trust I have ever seen. Stealing $5 million from all places of all places is more than storms are being abused, and that money should be helping the victims of a real disaster.”
Steube doesn’t plan on banning the Cerfilus-McCormick move. He vowed to expel him from Congress.
“And when the morals of the house run out of fuel or are found legally, be sure that I will move to expel them from Congress,” wrote Steube in X.

The Florida Congresswoman has also been accused of working with her 2021 tax adviser, David K. Spencer, to conspire to file false tax returns, according to the DoJ. Attorney General Pam Bondi called Cherfilus-McCormick’s Ourget Crime “special” and “Cynical.” In addition, the US attorney for the southern district of Florida Jason A. Redring Quiñones said that “the case shows that no one is above the law.”
“This man and his family allegedly stole money from FEMA and then discussed his benefits with friends – including his campaign accounts. Today the FBI and its partners [DOJ] took action. No one is above the law,” FBI director Kash Patel wrote in a post on X.

If found guilty, Gerfilus-McCormick faces up to 53 years behind bars, according to the DoJ. If convicted, his brother faces 35 years, Leblanc faces 10 years and Spencer faces 33 years, prosecutors said.
