Dictionary.com has gone too far, 6-7 words are the ‘word’ of the year

Dictionary.com isn’t exactly a controversial website (unless you ask word nerds), but it has managed to produce a lot of old men shouting at the cloud party. The place announced its word of the year in 2025, and took the word which is actually two words (numbers Sev Sevuhn).

In the small world of Christic.com If you have anyone in your life under the age of 18, you have probably heard this word repeated countless times. The dictionary of I-Dictionary.com that six-seven appeared in digital media more often in October 2025 than before or in the month of 2024.

“Few slang terms that capture the cultural sensibilities of 2025 are like 67,” Steve Johnson, Phd, director of lexicography for the IXL Learning News Group, said in a statement. “It’s part inside joke, part social signal and part performance. When people say it, they’re just repeating the meme;

Dictionary.com calls six-seven the modern shibboleth, which is a cool way to mess something up that has done many people a disservice to reading. It also notes that it is still something of an Etymological Mystery because no one can really agree on the origin (probably called “doot doot (67)”

But the decision to ride with the six-seventh also has the cheap grace of the Publisher. It was very sure to get attention because of how varied and strange the voice is. Is that so indeed Word that defines the year? Scridan.com’s short list of other arguments included AI-related “agentic” in reference to the proliferation of AI providers, and “clanker,” robotic flow. It also included “Broligarchy,” the name of the Tech Bro ruling class that now characterizes our lives, and “tax” as in “These cattle taxes are sure to kill the economy.”

All those words are likely to have a staying power of more than six – seven high powers, which will (God willing) be a habit in more than the number of languages. But these terms won’t get you similar titles or an seo bump. Well played, dictionary.com. You win this round.
