PoCo has been known for finding the sweet spot between specs, features, and pricing. The new poco pad poco tries to walk the line between the two use cases of a full tablet: content consumption and content creation. It’s a poco-like gesture that’s known for making good calls. But does it succeed with its new tablet?
At first glance, the hardware gives the impression of a premium device with an all-metal build. Whether you’re holding it directly or on the ground, handling the unit is a cinch thanks to its rounded edges. Putting it in the case is optional.
When it comes to the design of the cases, PoCo went all the way minimalist with Brind’s BIGS BIGS BIGS BIGS BUT-verestated typeface logo on the back. The only other highlights on the back are the rear camera lens and the LED flash which is placed in a slightly raised position. The Quad Stereo Speakers are well suited for world use. With Dolby Atmos support, the speakers deliver the goods when it comes to sound quality. It can get good with little distortion at max volume. There’s still a headphone jack provided next to the charging port for those who want to use a wired headset.
With its screen ratio of 16: 10, it is a Cultic Media tablet. At 12.1 inches, it is suitable for watching marathon movies and TV shows as well. Browsing, reading eBooks, comics, and graphic novels is a satisfying experience on the 2.5K resolution IPS LCD PANDL with a max brightness of 600. Packed with a 12,000 Mah battery, the tablet lasts long enough for a full day of mixed use. Ultrafast charging would have been ideal for a tablet of this size but with 33W charging, expect around three hours to charge from zero to full.
The Snapdragon 7s Chipset and 8GB RAM keep everything, well, snappy with ample storage space of 256GB memory with an option to add an additional 2TB memory. When used for gaming, Pad M1 users can expect to reduce everything down to medium and Graphics-Heavy settings.
As a Stand-In for the laptop, the tablet works well with an additional keyboard. You can excel in many tasks such as email writing, social media content creation, online document editing, and mobile-based graphics and video editing. Primary connectivity is only via Wi-Fi6 so you should keep that in mind when picking up a tablet for heavy duty tasks.
At 610g, the tablet is easy to drop and damage. Even without the case, the matte finish of the metal back panel makes it easy to remove with one or two hands. The background is resistant to Sludges. Another must have accessory is the poco smart pen which can be purchased separately. We didn’t have the unit at the time of the review but on paper, it’s a decent drawing and drawing partner with the 4,096’s oppressive feel
On the software side, the tablet runs Xiaomi Hyperos v2.0. No bloatware with only essential apps installed. Apart from the standard Google apps, Gemini is also pre-installed to provide basic AI features.
PoCo Pad M1 is now available at the official store for P12,999 (Introductory Price) until December 9 with Free Keyboard / Case Bundles. The SRP is P15,999. – Ed g. geronia jr.
