Phriples driving suits can be searched on Google

Be careful what you “ghost post” on threads because they can actually live forever.

It seems that at least some ghost posts – the new Threads Fice introduced Meta launched this week that automatically removes posts after 24 hours – have been wrapped up by Google, making them faster. When I wrote about the reaction of the Internet in the feature, I tested this by linking the text from several screen posts to Google Search. In many cases, I was able to find saved versions of those posts that still show up in search results.

Here’s a screenshot showing the text from Mark Zuckerberg himself announcing the feature.

Here’s another screenshot of the Google result for what appears to be a ghost post from the Threads @ hi.nixson account.

Here is the blue post, included in my first article about Internet response, that shows screenshots of those original pounds.

Here’s a post on X, and included in my original story, with a screenshot of a ghost post from reporter Ben Werdmuller about Meta’s Meta in Myanmar.

Here’s a screenshot of that post, which appears to be archived in Google results.

When you try to click on any of these posts, you’re met with a very blank page and an error message that reads, “Sorry, something went wrong. Try again.” That track, because the post itself automatically disappears from the threads after 24 hours.

To be clear, not all ghost posts appear to have been removed. I tested the text from the screens on several screens shared on the launch day, and while some are displayed in the Google search results, others are not. Mashable has reached out to Meta and Google for clarification and will update this story when we hear back.

Of course, no one should expect a ghost post — or any post, for that matter — to literally disappear. Screenshots are there, after all. If you say something offensive, objectionable, or blatantly obvious online, it’s safe to assume that it will live on forever.

However, it is surprising to see that thread “disappeared” posts can remain on Google, even after they have been removed by technology.
