Democrats are celebrating the year’s biggest election win amid opposition to Trump

Everything changed on Tuesday.
And nothing has been changed.
Bear with me.
The results are:
Perhaps the most important thing that happened to Democrats who won hundreds in the General Election is a psychological boost. Democrats have nothing to celebrate. Now, they are walking high. This is clearly a protest against President Donald Trump and Trumpism, which makes the victory a little sweeter.
Two women had a particularly big night. In New Jersey, Mikie Sherrill is the new coach selected. In Virginia, Abigail Spanberger is the Commonwealth’s first female governor. Hell, yes Jay “two letters” Jones, who sent those nasty texts about wanting to kill the Speaker of the House at the time, won his Virginia race for that Virginia representative.
If you live in those states, your life can change a little.

But, it is also a reminder that politics is not just about policy. Of course, the Democrats were smart to chase unaffordable money, given that the President had promised to bring in tariffs. But ultimately, voters want someone they feel comfortable with, someone who can deal with unexpected problems.
But up front, Trump still controls the white house. You still control the house. He still controls the senate. He is widely supported by the Supreme Court, despite doubts at oral argument yesterday that tax rates fall under his emergency powers.
So what has really changed?
The ongoing government shutdown sparked a sense of frustration and impatience with the President, as he admitted to that fried response to the GOP’s loss – when Gavin Newlom moved on to California, where Gavin Newlom was dragged into the plan to revive Republican Grymandering.
Key takeover from the 2025 election
Trump was quick to note that he was not on the ballot. But, in a very real sense, he was on every vote.
The most protected media in this afternoon’s elections in two states that have declined. Trump saw a disaster so he stopped, not wanting to be tainted by the loss to come.
But he still has all his powers.
Let’s imagine six months from now and the shutdown, now the longest in American history, is a distant memory. Let’s say the economy improves in some way – a big if, to be sure. Who knows if it means that the Democrats will re-enter the middle?
Joe Biden did not lose the Midterm to lose when the predictions of the blue wave never drew. Barack Obama lost the house in his first term, then he lost the Senate in his second term. George W. Bush lost the house in his second term, making Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Trump lost the House in his first term, in 2018.
Bush called it “Thumpin’,” Obama “a” Shellacking. “
It’s too early to say whether Trump will suffer the same way in next year’s midterm elections, when Democrats only need to pick up a handful of control seats.

Another possible drama is in the news crisis, where Zohran Mamdani was elected the first Muslim Mayor of New York City, beating Andrew Cuomo for a second term. Cuomo refused to make a traditional deal, a small movement that was under him.
Talk about strength of character. The invisible assembly, who has never done anything, belongs to a self-described conservative who started with 1 percent at the polls. He is popular with young people and he is putting together a coalition that he is in some way connected to in some way he is allowed to work with his colleagues who work in Brooklyn and Queens.
Mamdani exploded by making a fiery speech, almost shouting at times, rather than being more engaging.
What will the results of the 2025 election mean for Democrats and Republicans
He ran roughshod over Jewish finance, who were outraged by his refusal to recognize Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state, and threatened to arrest Israeli Minister Netyanya if he came to the UN
The Mayor – The choice is a complete failure to fulfill his many buses without promises, free child care, free everything – because he will not be strong and needs the help of Albany. And one of his previous comments from his Defend-The-Police, the critical days will be dead a little senseless election.
Mamdani now has 81 percent name recognition, in line with High City Mayors, from John Lindsay and Ed Koch to Rudy Giuliani, Mike Bloomberg and Bill de Blasio.
The AOC is happy, but it’s the Republicans who couldn’t be happier.
The National Republican Committee recently launched a digital ad against Mamdani, which is active in nearly 50 states.

“A left-handed earthquake just hit America. Epicenter: New York,” the blurb said.
They were already campaigning for Mamdani in an attempt to make him the face of the wing group. Some star-studded supporters see aggression as the answer, but they don’t play with a baton or baton rouge like in the Bronx.
Circling back to Trump, who treats Mamdani as Communists: Are you pretending a little? Not his style.
He’s always gunning for his base and the party he backs in his image, even if Republicans on the Hill oppose his demand to end the filibuster.

The media is very anti-Trump, and in a visceral way, especially as their corporate owners continue to fix his crimes. That’s why you see so many smiling smiles as they plan victory speeches throughout the day.
But these early Trump announcements, the inevitable Trump assassination may be a fluke.
